Collection: Graham Stichbury

Some artists chase drama. Graham Stitchbury chases light—the way it breaks through coastal mist, softens a mountain range, transforms an ordinary road into something you can't look away from. His atmospheric oil paintings capture the moody, contemplative beauty of Hawke's Bay and beyond, inviting you to slow down and really see.

A Napier-based artist with roots in Gisborne, Graham's journey has taken him from primary school classrooms across New Zealand to international schools in Vietnam and Uzbekistan. Fourteen years abroad deepened his appreciation for home—for the rivers, lakes, coastal roads, and mountain ranges that make the eastern side of this country so visually stunning and emotionally resonant.

Now fully retired and back in Hawke's Bay, Graham paints the landscapes and seascapes he knows intimately. His work isn't about perfect clarity—it's about atmosphere, mood, the in-between moments where uncertainty feels beautiful. These are paintings for people who appreciate subtlety, who find peace in contemplation, who want art that feels like a quiet conversation with the land.

Graham's work has been exhibited throughout New Zealand and is held in private collections here and overseas. He welcomes commissions for those seeking a deeply personal connection to place.
