Collection: Jill Matthew

Originally from Putaruru and now based in Cambridge, Jill Matthew creates striking fused glass artworks that are both tactile and luminous.

Her love for glass began during recovery from a serious illness, when a simple microwave kiln ignited her passion. Today, she works from her home studio using larger kilns—including her beloved kiln, Margo—to transform layers of glass into intricate, contemporary pieces.

Jill is inspired by the dual nature of glass—transparent and opalescent—and the alchemy of heat that brings depth and movement to each work. Recently, she has embraced reclaimed glass, giving discarded materials a beautiful new life.

Her work has been exhibited across New Zealand and featured in Her Space: She Sheds, Back Rooms by Marilyn Jessen.
