Collection: Sophie Lankovsky

Sophie Lankovsky is a New Zealand-based ceramic artist whose work pays homage to the country’s treasured native birdlife. Self-taught, she has honed her craft into life-sized clay sculptures of species such as the whio, tūī, takahē, and kererū — each piece a celebration of both beauty and fragility. Using the traditional and demanding raku firing technique, Sophie infuses her work with reverence for nature while raising awareness of the threats posed by habitat loss and climate change.

Her practice aligns with conservation initiatives, including collaborations with Forest & Bird, ensuring her art not only delights but also advocates for protection of these species. Originally introduced to ceramics as a schoolgirl in Germany, Sophie has grown her passion into an artistic voice that bridges craft and conservation. Through her sculptures, she invites us to reflect on our relationship with the natural world and to take small steps toward safeguarding it for generations to come.
