John Staniford

John has been painting full-time for more than 50 years, and his instantly recognizable style has become a favourite among art lovers in Hawke’s Bay and beyond. Originally from the UK, John moved to New Zealand as a teenager and quickly fell in love with the freedom of its wide-open spaces and the beauty of its natural environment.

Working mainly in acrylics John’s paintings celebrate New Zealand life with a distinct Kiwiana touch—baches by the sea, native birds, and vibrant landscapes, often framed with his signature bold outlines. His works radiate warmth, character, and a sense of place, making them pieces you can truly live with.
