Bacon and Eggs

Not every painting needs to be profound. Some just need to make you smile.

Ion Brown brought the same loose, confident brushwork to a plate of bacon and eggs as he did to the Wellington coastline. Two golden yolks, a rasher of bacon, cutlery crossed just so — painted with warmth and a quiet sense of humour. It's the kind of piece that belongs in a kitchen or dining room and makes every morning feel a little more considered.

Ion Brown is no longer with us. His paintings are becoming increasingly rare — and increasingly treasured.
