Soft smoky greys and warm earthy tones give Sophie Lankovsky’s Kokako a gentle presence. Sculpted feather details catch the light across its rounded body, while a raised tail and distinctive wattle bring character to its silhouette.

The sawdust-fired finish is central to this piece’s beauty, with subtle shifts of colour drawing the eye across the textured clay. Native birds of Aotearoa have been a strong feature of Sophie’s repertoire for 20 years, and her affection for them comes through in this quietly expressive sculpture.
