A summer landscape, alive with light and memory.
Ion Brown painted the world with a quiet, searching eye — the same eye that documented New Zealand's military history at Gallipoli, Crete and Malaysia as the Official Artist to the New Zealand Army. But in "Looking for Wildflowers", that gaze turns to something softer. A figure moves through a lush, sun-dappled landscape, half-hidden by the abundance around them. The greens are deep and layered, the light impressionistic and warm. It feels like a moment caught, not staged.
Ion Brown (1942–2021) was one of New Zealand's most significant painters. His work hangs in Parliament Buildings in Wellington and in collections across the country. Since his passing, his paintings have become increasingly sought after.
To own one is to hold a piece of New Zealand's artistic and cultural heritage.
